Simon Beedle is an international award winning landscape photographer, based in Australia.
Completely self-taught, Simon’s career began taking surfing images using large lenses, fast cameras and standing on beaches for hours. He often found himself taking a step back, trying to capture the entire scene instead of just the surfer filling the frame. He discovered that his style through his images began to change; as an alternative to using his 600mm lens, he often opted for a wide angle lens to capture the scene. Simon discovered the work of Peter Lik and Ken Duncan inspiring, and came to realize that the panoramic image is the perfect format for capturing the landscape. Purchasing his first Panoramic camera he began the long process of learning how to perfect the format. Instead of using fast shutter speeds, large apertures and in-camera light readings, he found himself slowing down his photography and working with nature, using available light, slow film and small apertures, leading to exposures of up to and over 30 minutes.
Simon constantly strives to capture spectacular light and mood within his images, while maintaining a fresh perspective on overly photographed areas. He believes a photograph has to provoke an emotion, represent the landscape and tell a story.
Simon only uses the best equipment, from cameras, film and lenses, to the finest archival print and frame materials available which ensures quality and longevity in all his work. Each photograph taken is examined and undergoes an extensive selection process, only then, the finest images are chosen for his new collection.
At Simon Beedle Photography we believe in giving back to the environment, so we donate a percentage of all Limited Edition sale profits to the Wilderness Society. A charity we believe is making a difference.
